Member Arts Agencies
Allied Arts Fund members are Black Hills-area, non-profit arts organizations. They include eleven of the region’s most active and established performing and visual arts groups.
A Cappella Showcase (www.acshowcase.org)
Performs various concerts around the Black Hills area with auditioned chorus of women singers. Provides continuing education in the arts of vocal and visual production in workshops by bringing in Sweet Adelines International Faculty throughout the year. Competes in Regional Competitions. Showcases area singers and musicians in their area concerts. Raises funds for the area food drive.
Bells of the Hills (www.bellsofthehills.org)
Presents two handbell concerts annually. Sponsors annual handbell workshop for the region. Showcases area musicians in concert.
Black Hills Chamber Music Society (www.bhchambermusic.org)
Presents a five concert series of chamber music for the public each year. Co-sponsors the Young Vocal Artists Competition with the Dakota Choral Union. Presents a chamber music concert for the students in each fifth grade in the Douglas and Rapid City School’s each spring, at no cost to the schools. Sponsors a music enrichment program for children in the Black Hills Children’s Home.
Black Hills Community Theatre (www.bhct.org)
BHCT is an organization that reaches out to everyone in the Black Hills providing them with the opportunity to learn, share, and experience the performing arts through participation, classes, or being an audience member at quality theatrical productions in the Black Hills. BHCT does this by producing 5 Main Stage shows each year, 1 Dinner theatre Fundraiser, 4 Children’s theatre productions, a Senior Theatre program that performs at various senior centers, and housing complexes throughout the region, and theatre project development with the Suzie Cappa Players of the Black Hills Workshop.
Black Hills Dance Theatre (www.blackhillsdancetheatre.org)
Provides quality in dance education, performance and experience to audiences in the Black Hills region. They are committed to supporting local dancers through scholarships, workshops, outreach and performance opportunities. BHDT presents The Nutcracker Ballet biennially and sponsors a performance from a nationally acclaimed dance company every year. Guest Instructors teach master classes in ballet, jazz, hip-hop and modern for area students.
Black Hills Playhouse (www.blackhillsplayhouse.com)
Annually produces a season of extraordinary theater in Custer State Park. 60-65 performances serving over 15,000 patrons. Brings incredible professional actors, artists and technicians from a cross section of the nation to work and perform in South Dakota.Affiliated with the College of Fine Arts at the University of South Dakota; provides intensive, hands-on educational experiences for students through employment and internships. Working to inspire the next generation of theater professionals and audiences
Black Hills Symphony Orchestra (www.bhsymphony.org)
Presents a five-concert series. Co-sponsors the Young Artist Competition with the Black Hills Symphony League. Provides, at no charge, the annual fourth grade Black Hills Power Symphony Safari and Music Memory competition for Rapid City School’s grades 3-5.
Dakota Artists Guild
Dakota Artists Guild has ongoing art Shows at First Methodist Church, Black Hills Community Theatre at Rushmore Mall, and Black Hills Piano Gallery. Art Shows are changed every two months and feature the varied visual arts of the Dakota Artists Guild Members. DAG serves youth through sponsoring scholarships and hosts artists workshops.
Dakota Choral Union (www.dakotachoralunion.org)
Performs an annual series of four concerts with its non-auditioned choir. Collaborates with the Black Hills Symphony to present significant choral works. Co-Sponsors Young Vocal Artist Competition.
Rapid City Arts Council (www.thedahl.org)
Presents, promotes and preserves the arts through education, exhibits, performances, and collections. Provides affordable arts camps, classes, and workshops. Organizes and sponsors free concerts, performances, tours, and community events. Administers the Dahl Arts Center.
Rapid City Concert Association (www.rapicityconcertassociation.com)
Presents an annual concert series featuring renowned, nationally-known artists. Formed in 1937, it is Rapid City’s oldest arts organization.
